Legends of Slots

Legends of Slots surprised us. We expected a throwaway tap game and got something with a surprising amount of charm. You spin a set of reels, but the twist is that matched symbols feed into a small roster of cartoon heroes who each gain abilities as you fill their meters. The whole loop is built around planning which hero to boost next, not just chasing a lucky line.

Controls are about as simple as it gets: a tap to spin, a swipe to lock a symbol you want to keep for the next round. That lock mechanic is where the actual thinking happens, since holding the right icon can set up a chain two or three rounds later. Once that clicked for us, the game got a lot more engaging.

Presentation is clean and the hero animations are genuinely cute. Sessions are short, which makes it a good phone-on-the-couch game. Our only real complaint is that the later stages lean a bit hard on repeating earlier symbol sets, so the sense of discovery fades after a while.
